Massage Therapy

The healing powers of massage have
been recognized since antiquity.

In the 5th century BC, the Greek physician Hippocrates wrote that his colleagues should be experienced in massage... as massage "can bind a joint that is too loose, and loosen a joint that is too rigid." Various forms of massage were also employed by the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, and Romans. However, the technique as we know it today didn't appear until the late 19th century.

In addition to its general health benefits, massage has shown value for a variety of special problems in a host of recent medical studies. Our well trained massage therapists employ their hands as finely tuned yet powerful tool to promote wellness. As awareness grows and misconceptions fade regarding the value of massage therapy, more and more people are discovering the profound benefits available to them through regular body work. The origins of therapeutic massage are rooted in the common instinctual response to hold and rub a hurt or pain. It is found in all cultures as an integral part of health care and maintenance.

Our office incorporates all types of massage as an integral part of our patient's health and wellness. Massage therapy and chiropractic are an extremely effective combination in restoring health and function.

Why have a massage?

  • Massage Therapy triggers the nervous system’s natural relaxation response, encouraging the brain and body to release stress and anxiety. This promotes an overall feeling of well-being.
  • Massage therapy increases the flow of blood through the body. This brings oxygen to body tissues, presenting the skin with a healthy glow and the brain with an easier thought process.
  • Over a series of sessions, massage therapy can greatly reduce the suffering caused by chronic pain.
  • Massage therapy increases the flow of lymph, therefore increasing the effectiveness of the body’s immune system.
  • Massage and acupuncture work very well together. Massage will help and reinforce the positive effects of acupuncture treatment.
  • No, you do not have to be naked! Most people undress completely for a full body massage though you may choose to wear underwear. Throughout your massage you are generally covered except for the area being worked on.
